As President of Youth & High School, it’s very hard to accurately put into words the emotion and feeling of spending the past weeks planning and putting together a sports event and watching its success echo around the six playing parks set out for our first event. The enjoyment, dedication and passion demonstrated by players of all age groups during yesterday’s introduction of West Houston Rugby Club and our first summer fun session was clear to see.
In June this year our management team decided upon a goal that we set ourselves and over the past month we have worked hard to be in a position to present to the rugby community our new club. So to see the level of attendance achieved on Sunday afternoon at Crosspoint Church was certainly a satisfying accomplishment. A few shy of 100 players on the field is an accomplishment we intend to build upon.
There are so many people to thank who helped to achieve the fun and success obtained yesterday. All teams were well supported by a number of dedicated coaches. My sincere thanks go out to each and every coach that battled the heat and made the sessions entertaining for the teams on the park.
To all the volunteers, who welcomed the players and parents on arrival, offered the club merchandise, put up tents and sun shades, provided water and ensured all players remained hydrated, to the parents and friends who travelled to the event to support our efforts and engage in this great sport of rugby, I say, a BIG thank you to you all for supporting us.
To the Houston Strikers. A huge thank you to Justin Fitzpatrick and Matt Trouville. Our club vision includes a commitment to developing rugby within our community. The relationship with the Strikers and watching how Justin and Matt engaged with our players and parents yesterday demonstrates this promise to the community from the highest level in Houston to the growth and development for rugby.
Lastly, to the extraordinary team behind the teams! The dedication of this group makes it all possible. Hours of meetings, calls, planning, and fund raising dedicated to making sure every minute the players are on the park runs like clockwork. Thank you team.
But as a team, we are far from finished. We are still striving towards our mission of being the club that provides the most enjoyable environment for our players through a High Performance program. So, this coming Sunday the 6th August, we do it for a second time. Please come join us again for more rugby fun.
Once again, thank you all for your support, well wishes and undying enthusiasm for this great game and our wonderful athletes.
See you Sunday!
